Elder Law Staff Attorney, Asian Law Caucus (San Francisco, CA)

The Asian Law Caucus is the nation’s oldest legal organization focusing on the civil rights of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders. Recognizing that social, economic, political and racial inequalities continue to exist in the United States, the Asian Law Caucus is committed to the pursuit of equality and justice for all sectors of our society, with a specific focus directed toward addressing the needs of low-income, immigrant and underserved APIs. Since 1972, ALC has litigated high-profile cases and provided an array of services including community education, advocacy, and direct client representation. Our current program areas include national security & civil rights, immigration, housing, worker health & safety, and juvenile justice & education.

Position summary:
The Asian Law Caucus is recruiting a staff attorney to oversee legal services addressing the needs of Asian American and Pacific Islander seniors. The staff attorney will carry a docket of housing cases, and will be responsible for expanding the program to address other relevant areas such as public benefits, MediCare, and consumer issues. S/he will provide counseling, referrals, and direct individual representation in court and before administrative agencies.

Responsibilities:
• Manage active caseload of clients and provide high-quality legal services to seniors
• Coordinate and expand senior legal clinics in high density AAPI neighborhoods
• Set senior law program priorities in consultation with legal team and other senior legal services providers
• Engage in advocacy, community education, and coalition-building
• Participate in ALC events and other organization-wide activities including limited fund development tasks
• Supervise community advocate, law clerks, and other volunteers as available
• Reports to Deputy Director

Qualifications:
• Demonstrated commitment to advancing the rights of low-income, API, people of color, senior, disability and/or immigrant communities
• B.A./B.S. and J.D. degrees with membership in good standing with the California State Bar
• Minimum of two years legal services or litigation experience, ideally with familiarity in practicing in a non-profit context
• Substantive law experience in a relevant area
• Excellent research, analytical, written, and oral communication skills
• Ability to work with a highly diverse group of mission-driven lawyers and staff with a range of substantive law knowledge, experience and expertise
• Highly motivated and self-starting
• Preferred bilingual skills in Asian and Pacific Islander language(s)
• Preferred experience in supervising non-legal staff

Salary and Benefits:
Salary range for this position is $46-60,000, depending on experience. Salary is based on principles of internal equity. A full benefits package is included.
