Going out on your own is not an easy decision to make. Hear from our distinguished panelists about how they went on their own and why they chose to form the business they did for their practice. The panel will explore the business entities one can choose from when going solo and look at inherent tax implications of each. (1 MCLE participatory credit pending approval. Pick-up service at San Bruno BART station will be available for those using BART.)
Billy Chan is a solo attorney who handles the business issues for his clients across the restaurant, real estate, distribution, services, and technology sectors. He has been recognized by Northern California Super Lawyers as a Northern California Rising Star from 2009 to 2013 (and the outlook is good for 2014). He formerly served as the President of AABA and of FBANC.
Charles Jung is a founding partner of Nassiri & Jung LLP. He is a trial attorney whose practice emphasizes class actions, wage & hour law, and trade secrets litigation. He has been recognized as a Super Lawyer or Rising Star by Super Lawyers magazine each year since 2009, and he was named a Top 100 Attorney in 2013 and 2014. He is a director of AABA and APILO, and serves as a San Francisco Elections Commissioner.
Mark Punzalan is the principal of Punzalan Law, P.C., a law firm that handles corporate law, intellectual property and technology, securities litigation, and whistleblower litigation. He currently serves on the Judiciary Committee of AABA and is a co-chair of the Partners Committee and the Solo and Small Firm Committee of the Asian Pacific American Bar Association, Silicon Valley (APABA-SV). He formerly served as the President of FBANC.
Angel O’Neil is a Tax Director at the accounting firm of PwC (formerly, PricewaterhouseCoopers). She has more than 15 years of experience in public accounting and works with attorneys on business, finance, tax, estate and trust issues. She currently serves as a Board Member of the Asian Business League of San Francisco (ABL).
