FBANC co-sponsored Legal Clinic with PAWIS and KGACLC was a success! Thank you volunteers! – Maria Segarra, FBANC Legal Clinics Director

The legal clinic that FBANC co-sponsored with the Katharine and George Alexander Community Law Center (KGACLC) and Pilipino Association of Workers and Immigrants (PAWIS) on September 10, 2014 was a success! We provided free assistance to 14 clinic clients, all of whom reside in San Jose. They had a variety of legal issues, including wage theft/employment, immigration, family law, eviction, bankruptcy, and public benefits. We had six attorney volunteers who helped staffed the clinic, including two from KGACLC,  as well as volunteers from PAWIS who directed the flow of the clinic and helped with intake, clinic logistics and interpretation. We thank Ruth Silver-Taube from KGACLC for initiating this joint effort to launch a pilot clinic with FBANC in San Jose. We are grateful to PAWIS for their efforts in publicizing the clinic and mobilizing the community to provide the needed support. Many thanks to Chriselle Raguro, Rachel Kinney, Vanessa Leonardo, Lorna Garcia, Vanessa Candelaria for helping us out at this clinic.
We have a few more legal clinics scheduled this fall, including a DACA clinic on October 11, 2014 at the Philippine Consulate's Office in San Francisco. If you would like to volunteer at other FBANC clinics, please contact Maria Segarra at legalclinics@fbanc.org.
