2018 FBANC Foundation NAPABA Scholarship — Applications Due September 14, 2018

2018 FBANC FOUNDATION NAPABA CONVENTION SCHOLARSHIP

All current law students, graduates awaiting their bar results, and public interest attorneys with financial need are encouraged to apply for the Foundation of the Filipino Bar Association of Northern California (FBANC Foundation) NAPABA Convention Scholarship. This year, the FBANC Foundation, with the assistance of Vanessa Candelaria and Lorna Garcia de Guzman, will sponsor a $500 scholarship to one individual who has demonstrated a commitment to public interest and/or Asian Pacific American issues. The purpose of this scholarship is to encourage and make it easier for individuals to participate in the NAPABA convention in Chicago, Illinois while maintaining their commitment of service to communities in need.

The scholarship will be awarded on Friday, October 5, 2018 at FBANC’s upcoming mentorship event, location to be announced. In order to receive a scholarship, the recipient must attend. The date and location of the FBANC (event) are subject to change.

A COMPLETE SUBMITTED APPLICATION PACKET MUST INCLUDE:

  1. CONTACT INFORMATION SHEET (below)
     
  2. STATEMENT OF FINANCIAL NEED: Statements must be double-spaced, no smaller than 12-point type in Times New Roman or similar font, and may not be longer than one page. When preparing your statement, please include a response to the following questions: (1) Why do you believe you need financial assistance to attend the NAPABA conference? (2) Have you ever attended a NAPABA convention? If so, which ones? If not, why? (3) Have you applied for a NAPABA Convention Scholarship or other form of financial assistance to attend the convention this year? If so, which ones, and what were the results?
     
  3. STATEMENT OF CONTRIBUTIONS TO FILIPINO-AMERICAN, APA OR OTHER UNDERSERVED COMMUNITIES: Statements must be double-spaced, no smaller than 12-point type in Times New Roman or similar font, and may not be longer than two pages. Briefly describe all of your contributions to the Filipino-American community, Asian Pacific American communities or any other underserved communities. Please include any relevant organizational affiliations and leadership positions that demonstrate your commitment to the public interest and/or Asian Pacific American issues.

Candidates will be judged on their ability to address the questions presented thoughtfully and concisely, their persuasiveness, and their demonstrated interest in issues affecting the Filipino-American community, Asian Pacific American community and any other underserved community. The FBANC Foundation Scholarship Committee may conduct interviews for finalists as necessary.

Application packets must be received on or before September 14, 2018 at 5:00 p.m., in PDF format. The recipient must provide proof of receipt to the FBANC Foundation that the scholarship funds were used for registration, travel and/or accommodations to attend the convention no later than November 16, 2018 5:00 p.m. to receipts@fbanc.org.
