The California Labor Commissioner currently has five openings for attorney positions in Northern California and Southern California.
Four of the positions currently open will be in support of the Division’s field enforcement work. This work entails working with investigators in the development of investigation plans, enforcement of investigatory subpoenas, taking investigatory depositions, obtaining inspection warrants in superior court, litigating multi-employee cases in administrative hearings and in the courts, and bringing fraudulent transfer litigation to curtail employer attempts to evade collection. Attorneys generally handle appellate work that arises from their cases.
The fifth position is with the Division’s PAGA Unit. This position focuses largely on review of proposed PAGA settlements and commenting on settlements that fall below acceptable standards. This attorney will focus on establishing minimum standards for settlements through intervention in the approval process and the development of strategies for dealing with reverse auctions.
