API Legal Outreach: Law Clerk
Law clerks will work closely with legal staff to assist mono-lingual survivors of domestic violence in restraining order, divorce and custody proceedings. Clerks may also assist clients with immigration, elder law/ elder abuse, public benefits, LITC and housing preservation legal needs and issues. Assignments may include completing legal research and writing, doing client intakes by phone and in person, conducting client interviews, assisting in the free community legal clinics, and giving presentations in community education and training sessions. If certified, law clerks may represent individuals in court hearings under attorney supervision. Preferences will be given to applicants who can commit to longer terms of service, and who are bilingual in English and one or more other languages (e.g., Hindi, Punjabi, Farsi, Dari, Vietnamese, Japanese, Laoation, Hmong, Russian, Spanish, etc.)
This is a 10 week, summer clerkship program starting in late May/early June 2011 and /or a 10-15 week, minimum 150 total-hours fall 2011 or spring 2012 commitment.
