<p>Admitted to the California Bar with 3-5 years experience in insurance defense.  Ability to multi-task to include taking/defending depositions; reporting to the claim department in a timely manner; preparing discovery plan and responding to discovery; trial experience a plus.  </p>
<p>Ability to use computer and calendar discovery deadlines required.  Fifty percent of position involves travel.</p>
<p><strong>Job Requirements: </strong></p>
<p>Reporting to the claim department in a timely manner; taking/defending depositions; preparing discovery/law &#038; motion matters and appearing at same; ability to use a computer and to calendar case matters.  Knowledge of Civil Procedure a must.  Ability to respond to discovery and prepare a discovery plan.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The National Asian Pacific American Bar Association (NAPABA) seeks a committed advocate to serve as Policy Director in NAPABA’s D.C. headquarters. The Policy Director works closely with NAPABA’s committees, the NAPABA Board, and NAPABA affiliates to promote diversity in the legal profession and justice, equity, and opportunity for Asian Pacific Americans. This is a unique opportunity for a conscientious professional to develop management skills in a small and busy not-for-profit office.</p>
<p>NAPABA is the national association of Asian Pacific American attorneys, judges, law professors and law students and advances the interests of over 40,000 Asian Pacific American attorneys and 60 regional Asian Pacific American bar association affiliates. We are the leading national organization that promotes Asian Pacific American diversity in the legal profession and we support the Asian Pacific American community as a whole through many other initiatives, such as our ongoing advocacy for increased access to justice for individuals with Limited English Proficiency, for effective hate crimes prevention and enforcement, for protecting the fundamental right of all Americans to vote, and for comprehensive immigration reform that preserves family-based immigration and due process principles.</p>
<p><strong>Responsibilities:</strong> </p>
<li>Collaborate with NAPABA committee co-chairs to identify and analyze issues impacting Asian Pacific Americans in order to formulate policy recommendations to the NAPABA board.</li>
<li>Collaborate with policymakers, regional Asian Pacific American bar associations, and other stakeholders, such as members of the National Council of Asian Pacific Americans and the Coalition of Bar Associations of Color, to identify and advance common goals. </li>
<li>Draft, edit, and finalize press releases, policy and endorsement letters, board memos, and talking points. </li>
<li>Serve as the primary media contact for a vast majority of issues promoted by NAPABA. </li>
<li>Assist NAPABA committees with monitoring and reviewing federal legislation, case law (including related legal documents such as U.S. Supreme Court amicus briefs), and other legal developments that impact the Asian Pacific American community. </li>
<li>Help formulate effective strategies as an active member of various issue-based coalitions. </li>
<p><strong>Qualifications:</strong> Demonstrated commitment to advancing social justice for Asian Pacific Americans and a passion for building consensus among diverse advocates within an organization or an issue-based coalition, excellent writing abilities, and an ability to work independently are a must. Excellent time-management skills, detail oriented focus, oral communication ability, and strong interpersonal skills are also required. Applicants with legislative experience or a law degree are especially encouraged to apply. Experience working with media is a plus. Some travel and at times, evening and weekend work, are required.</p>

<p>The Asian Law Caucus is the nation’s oldest legal organization focusing on the civil rights of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders. Recognizing that social, economic, political and racial inequalities continue to exist in the United States, the Asian Law Caucus is committed to the pursuit of equality and justice for all sectors of our society, with a specific focus directed toward addressing the needs of low-income, immigrant and underserved APIs. Since 1972, ALC has litigated high-profile cases and provided an array of services including community education, advocacy, and direct client representation. Our current program areas include national security civil rights, immigration, housing &#038; community development, worker health &#038; safety, and juvenile justice &#038; education.</p>
<p><strong>Position summary:</strong><br />
The Asian Law Caucus is currently recruiting a Litigation Director to develop and lead our impact litigation program. The Litigation Director is responsible for identifying broad patterns of abuse or other systemic rights violations and developing strategies to address these patterns of mistreatment via impact litigation.</p>
<p><strong>Responsibilities:</strong><br />
• Identify strategic opportunities to advance mission of Asian Law Caucus through impact litigation cases<br />
• Maintain active docket of cases at state and federal trial level<br />
• Update and revise organization’s litigation policies and systems<br />
• Set medium and long-term priorities for litigation program in consultation with ALC management staff<br />
• Facilitate regular meetings of staff attorneys ensuring litigation is consistent with ALC mission, vision, and values and maximizes available resources<br />
• Supervise and/or co-counsel staff attorneys in active litigation<br />
• Mentor and support staff attorneys&#8217; efforts to improve their litigation skills<br />
• Engage in administrative and legislative advocacy, community education, and coalition building on rights issues<br />
• Participate in ALC events generally as well as contribute to program-related administrative and fundraising tasks<br />
• Reports to Deputy Director</p>
<p><strong>Qualifications:</strong><br />
• Demonstrated commitment to advancing the rights of low-income, API, people of color and/or immigrant communities<br />
• Minimum of five years litigation experience, ideally with background in practice at a public interest organization; appellate level experience preferred but not required; class action experience highly desired<br />
• B.A./B.S. and J.D. degrees with membership in good standing with the California State Bar<br />
• Substantive law experience in a relevant area such as low-wage worker rights, civil rights, voting rights, immigrant rights<br />
• Excellent research, analytical, written, and oral communication skills<br />
• Ability to work with a highly diverse group of mission-driven lawyers and staff with a range of substantive law knowledge, experience and expertise<br />
• Demonstrated leadership ability<br />
• Experience mentoring staff attorneys<br />
• Preferred bilingual skills in Asian and Pacific Islander language(s)<br />
• Preferred experience in working with the media</p>
<p><strong>Salary and Benefits:</strong><br />
Salary range for this position is $55-80,000, depending on experience. Salary is based on principles of internal equity. A full benefits package is included.</p>
