FBANC Congratulates Judge Ian Rivamonte

April 6, 2023

FBANC extends its most sincere congratulations to Ian Rivamonte on his appointment by Governor Gavin Newsom to serve as a Superior Court Judge for Monterey County.

Prior to his appointment to the Superior Court, Judge Rivamonte worked as an associate attorney at Kazan, McClain, Satterley & Greenwood APC, where he has worked tirelessly since 2004 to protect the rights of his clients, most of whom come from underprivileged and underserved populations.. Among his achievements was obtaining a $26 million jury verdict for a Filipina American client who sustained fatal injuries from exposure to talc powder. Outside of the workplace, Mr. Rivamonte has been involved in various bar associations in the Bay Area, including FBANC, the Alameda County Bar Association, the Earl Warren American Inn of Court, the National Lawyers Guild, the Santa Clara County Trial Lawyers Association, and the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association. In 2011, Mr. Rivamonte founded and served as an inaugural member of the Diversity Committee of the Alameda Contra Costa Trial Lawyers Association, an organization in which he currently serves as a board member. He earned his undergraduate degree from the University of California, San Diego and a Juris Doctor from the University of San Francisco School of Law.

Judge Rivamonte shares the following message to the FBANC community:

“I am deeply grateful for Governor Gavin Newsom appointing me to the Monterey County Superior Court. It is an immense honor to be entrusted with this role. The encouragement and support of my family, colleagues, and kasamas at FBANC made this dream possible. I bring to the bench a unique perspective shaped by my experience as a Filipino immigrant, which I believe will help me better connect with and serve the diverse communities of Monterey County. Judicial Appointments Secretary Luis Céspedes said it best 'a judiciary that looks like California fulfills our democratic ideal of equal and impartial justice under the law.' FBANC and other affinity bar associations work tirelessly to achieve this goal, and I’m privileged to have gained their support from day one. I am proud to follow in the footsteps of Judge Efren N. Iglesia, who retired in 2020 and was the first Filipino American judge in Monterey County. I look forward to serving the great people of Monterey County with fairness, integrity, and dedication.”

As a 42-year-old bar association striving for diversity, equity, and inclusion in the legal profession, FBANC looks forward to Judge Rivamonte’s representation on the bench and his dedicated service as a judicial officer. Congratulations, Judge Rivamonte!
