FBANC Congratulates President Biden & Vice President Harris, Condemns the Insurrection Against Our Democracy, and Celebrates the Peaceful Transition of Power
On this Inauguration Day, the Filipino Bar Association of Northern California (FBANC) congratulates President-elect Joseph R. Biden, Jr., and Vice President-elect Kamala Devi Harris on their historic victory in the 2020 United States Presidential election. Vice President-elect Harris, a Bay Area native, will be the first woman and Asian American to serve as the Vice President of the United States.
“As a UC Hastings College of the Law Alumna and an Oakland resident, I am proud of Vice President-elect Harris’ amazing accomplishment. I applaud the American voters for their historic participation in this important election, and recognize the hard work and dedication of poll workers and local municipalities in ensuring a fair process and outcome,” stated FBANC President Mari Bandoma Callado.
As a non-partisan legal organization, FBANC recognizes its special responsibility to defend and uphold commitments to justice, fairness, equity, and the Rule of Law under our Constitution. In stark contrast, the siege upon the United States Capitol on January 6, 2021, attempting to thwart the certification of the Electoral College votes is irreconcilable and must be denounced. FBANC condemns the violent insurrection against our democracy and the attempts to erode its processes.
Admirably, in the wake of the insurrection, Congress upheld its constitutional duty and certified the will of the American people. In light of this, we celebrate the peaceful transition of power today - an enduring cornerstone of our democracy. Despite our personal and political differences, the perpetual strive towards a more perfect union binds us together as one nation, indivisible.
FBANC serves as the voice of the Bay Area Filipino/a/x legal community and we will continue to hold our elected leaders accountable to ensure that they uphold our nation’s constitutional ideals.
FBANC looks forward to the work the Biden Administration and the new Congress undertake to advance the representation and interests of the Filipino/a/x and Filipino/a/x, and Asian American and Pacific Islander communities.
