FBANC Foundation 2026 Scholarship Application Portal

THE APPLICATION PROCESS FOR FBANC FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIPS IS NOW OPEN FOR 2026. THE FBANC FOUNDATION IS PLEASED TO OFFER THE FOLLOWING SCHOLARSHIPS:

The Foundation of the Filipino Bar Association of Northern California will offer the following scholarships in 2026:   

  • The Raymond L. Ocampo Jr. Family Scholarship.  $17,500. 

  • The Honorable Tani G. Cantil-Sakauye Legal Scholarship.  $5,000. 

  • The Charles and Melita Jung Charitable Fund Scholarship.   $5,000.

  • The Honorable Ronald Quidachay Scholarship.  $5,000. 

  • The FBANC/BALIF Pamilya Scholarship. $5,000.

  • The Theodore Borromeo Scholarship.  $5,000.

  • The Ernie and Mila Llorente Scholarship.  $3,000.

  • The Carlos P. Romulo Family Scholarship.  $2,000.

  • The Honorable Eleanor Oducayen Nisperos Women’s Committee Scholarship.  $3,000.

  • The Cesar Alegria Memorial Scholarship. $2,000.

  • The Honorable Eleanor Oducayen Nisperos Women’s Committee Scholarship. $3,000.

The final scholarship titles and amounts may vary from the list above.  Please read these instructions thoroughly as certain scholarships have special requirements.  

Scholarships are open to current law students with two exceptions.  The Nisperos Scholarship is available only to college students or college graduates applying to law school.  The Alegria Scholarship is available to current law students and law school admits who will begin law school in 2026 (AKA “0L” students).  

The application deadline for all scholarships is Sunday, April 19, 2026 at 11:59 p.m.  Any inquiries should be directed to the FBANC Foundation Scholarship Committee (the “Committee”) at scholarship@fbanc.org.  More information can be found at https://fbanc.org/foundation.  The Committee may invite applicants to interview during the application review process.  

Scholarships will be awarded at FBANC’s 46th Annual Installation Gala (the “Gala”) on the evening of Friday, June 26, 2026, at Hyatt Regency San Francisco, Embarcadero.  All recipients are asked to commit to attending the Gala, where their entrance will be granted without charge.

APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS

STEP 1:  PREPARE AN APPLICATION PACKET

A complete application packet must include the following items:

    A complete application packet must include the following components in the order indicated below:

    1. STUDENT INFORMATION SHEET.  The Student Information sheet is included as page 5 of these instructions and may be extracted from this packet accordingly. 

    2. BIOGRAPHY AND PHOTOGRAPH.  Please limit your biography to 250 words or less.  If you receive a scholarship, your biography and photograph will be included in the Gala program. 

    3. CURRENT LAW SCHOOL TRANSCRIPT or ADMIT LETTER FROM LAW SCHOOL as applicable.

    4. RESUME.  Please limit your resume to one page.

    5. SCHOLARSHIP ESSAY.  All applicants must submit an essay according to the below requirements.   

    1. Word Limit:

      1. Essays of applicants seeking only the general scholarships (not any scholarships with special themes) should not exceed 750 words, including any headings.

      2. Essays of applicants seeking any specially themed scholarships should not exceed 900 words, including any headings.

      3. All essays should indicate the word count at the end. 

    2. Essay Prompt.  Your essay must address the following:  

      1. Pathways.  There are many pathways in the legal profession. How did the pathway behind you shape the pathway before you? Which pathway have you chosen, and why? 

      2. Involvement.  Discuss any FBANC involvement and state any FBANC events you have attended, with dates.  If you have not been involved in FBANC or have not attended any FBANC events, please discuss involvement in organizations similar to FBANC.

      3. Your why.  Discuss why you are applying for an FBANC scholarship and discuss your achievements and/or any relevant financial need.

    Criteria.  Applicants will be assessed on following criteria.  

    • Relevant experiences and accomplishments.

    • Commitment to and involvement in the Fil-Am community.

    • Essay.  The essay must respond to the prompt and, where applicable, address any special themes or requirements of the scholarship(s) sought.

    • Academic achievement.*

      • *Academics will not be considered for the FBANC/BALIF Pamilya Scholarship and the Eleanor Nisperos Scholarship. 

    STEP 2:  COMPILE YOUR APPLICATION PACKET INTO A SINGLE PDF.

    Compile all the materials in your application packet as a single PDF.  Put the documents in number order as listed in Step 1.  That is, the first page of the PDF should be item 1 (the student information sheet); item 2 (your biography and photo) should start on page 2 of the PDF; item 3 should come after that; and so on.

    The PDF file should follow the following naming convention:  LAST NAME 2026 FBANC APP.pdf.  For example, the application packet PDF for a student named Jose Rizal would be entitled “RIZAL 2026 FBANC APP.pdf.”

    The file must not exceed 10 MB in size.  

    STEP 3:  SUBMIT YOUR APPLICATION ONLINE.

GENERAL SCHOLARSHIPS  

There is no special theme for these scholarships, and therefore no special additional requirements.  If you wish to be considered for these, your essay should respond to the prompt above.

  • The Raymond L. Ocampo Jr. Family Scholarship.  $17,500.  

    • Available to current law students.

  • The Honorable Tani G. Cantil-Sakauye Legal Scholarship.  $5,000.  

    • Available to current law students.

  • The Honorable Ronald Quidachay Scholarship.  $5,000.  

    • Available to current law students.

  • The Honorable Eleanor Oducayen Nisperos Women’s Committee Scholarship.  $3,000.  

    • Available to college students or college graduates who are applying to law school.  

    • Not available to current law students or students matriculating to law school in 2026.


THEMED SCHOLARSHIPS

The scholarships below have special themes and requirements.  In addition to responding to the essay prompt, applicants to these should also address in their essay why they are a good fit for the special themed scholarships for which they wish to be considered.  

  • The Charles and Melita Jung Charitable Fund Scholarship.  $5,000

    • Available to current law students.

    • This scholarship is awarded to a law student who has shown a commitment and desire to pursue public interest/public sector law.

  • The FBANC/BALIF Pamilya Scholarship.  $5,000.

    • Available to current law students.

    • This scholarship is awarded to a law school student who has a demonstrated commitment to the Fil-Am and LGBTQI communities.

  • The Theodore Borromeo Scholarship.  $5,000.

    • Available to current law students.

    • This scholarship is awarded to a law student in pursuit of any practice perspective in employment and labor law.

  • The Carlos P. Romulo Family Scholarship.  $2,000.

    • Available to current law students.

    • This scholarship is awarded to a law student who has a demonstrated commitment to studying about or practicing law in the fields of International Law, Free Speech, or Human Rights.

  • The Ernie and Mila Llorente Scholarship.  $3,000.

    • Available to current law students.

    • This scholarship is awarded to a Fil-Am student who has demonstrated a dedication to public service in the City and County of San Francisco.

  • The Cesar Alegria Memorial Scholarship.  $2,000.

    • Available to current law students and admits who will begin law  (AKA “0L” students).

    • This scholarship is awarded to an entering or existing law school student who has shown a commitment to the Fil-Am community, other important social causes, or those most in need.  

There is no limit to the number of scholarships for which an applicant may seek consideration. The Foundation reserves the ability to award a scholarship to any applicant regardless of selection.
