I’m Antonio Raimundo, FBANC Foundation Treasurer for the current term. I served as Mentorship Committee Chair in the 2018-2019 and 2019-2020 terms. I served on the Board of Directors of the Philippine American Bar Association in Los Angeles from 2013 to 2015. My day job is working as Counsel, Employment & Litigation at Lyft, Inc., where I manage litigation and advise on workplace law issues. Prior to Lyft, I’ve worked as an associate attorney at Jackson Lewis P.C. and Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP. I also served as a judicial law clerk for two judges in Southern California.
I would love to bring my experience and enthusiasm to serve as FBANC’s Mentorship Committee Co-Chair for the 2021-2022 term. If elected, I would focus first on the fundamentals. In the summer, I would set up outreach to the law students and FBANC attorneys to bring in new mentors and mentees into the program. In the fall, I would set up an opening event for the participants. During the winter/spring, I would focus on a spring event to bring the participants together again. And starting in March, I would work on the scholarship recipient selection process, including setting up applications, organizing interviews, and helping facilitate discussion so that the scholarship committee could select winners.
If the COVID-19 pandemic and related lockdowns relent next term, then I would love to make our events in-person gatherings again. If not, then I would work to hold online events, as our Mentorship team has done during the current term. And even if the lockdowns do lift, I’d be happy to consider holding both online and in-person mentoring events. In-person mentoring events are definitely more enjoyable. But online events have proven fantastic for other reasons--e.g., students or attorneys who otherwise might be too busy or too far to travel to San Francisco for an in-person FBANC event can instead attend via Zoom.
In addition to the fundamentals, I would also love to assist with the Komunidad conferences that President-Elect Ray Rollan has been overseeing during the past year (assuming those continue into the future). They are wonderful events that I would love to support. And I would jump at the chance to work with a Mentorship Committee co-chair to brainstorm and execute new ideas for mentorship events -- perhaps outdoor activities like hiking, or wine tasting on a weekend afternoon.
Working with students and attorneys through the Mentorship program has been one of the highlights for me during my three years of serving on the FBANC Board. I’d love the chance to work on this committee again, and I hope you’ll support me with your vote.
