Director, Mentorship:

Idrian Mollaneda

Hello FBANC Family!

I am Idrian Mollaneda, and I’m hoping to be one of your Mentorship Directors for the 2024-25 term! I probably speak for everyone in FBANC when I say that mentorship has affected all of us in powerful ways. As someone who has benefited immensely from the support of my FBANC mentors, I would be honored to support and uplift FBANC’s mentorship goals this next term.

When I was co-leading Berkeley Law PALS in 2019, FBANC asked me and other PALS leaders across the Bay Area to participate in planning a new, first of its kind one-day conference for Filipinx law students called Komunidad.  We all agreed, and not long after that, held regular meetings to discuss what Komunidad might look like—its theme, schedule, speakers, content, and logistics.  We harnessed the talents and resources of each planning committee member to organize a stunning conference with now-California Attorney General (then-Assembly Member) Rob Bonta as the keynote speaker and an address from FBANC titan Raymond Ocampo.  It’s been nothing short of incredible to see Komunidad continue every year since, persisting through the pandemic and providing generations of current and future Filipinx law students FBANC’s mentorship, support, and—indeed—komunidad (community).  Besides being an inaugural Komunidad organizer, I bring over five years of FBANC membership (two as a Social Co-Director), a growing network within and outside of FBANC, and the ability to bring people together.

I am seeking the Mentorship Directorship with three goals in mind: (1) to spark new connections between mentors and mentees and rekindle past mentor/mentee relationships; (2) develop durable mentorship bonds across FBANC; and (3) to deliver an impactful sixth Komunidad conference.  I plan to achieve these goals by having regular meetings with my co-director and FBANC’s mentorship committee, engaging law students so they feel a sense of ownership over their mentorship relationships and Komunidad, and leveraging my resources, talents, and network to maximize the reach of our mentorship programming (i.e., events, Komunidad, mentor/mentee pairings).

Please don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions at (240) 413-7919 or idrianmollaneda@fbanc.org.  I look forward to continuing to serve you in this term and the next!
