Candidate for Treasurer:
Leoangelo Cristobal
My name is Leoangelo Cajucom Cristobal (he/him/his), and I humbly submit my candidacy for the position of Treasurer for the 2021-2022 FBANC Board.
I have been an active member of FBANC since my days as a law student and former PALS president. I am a former recipient of the Raymond L. Ocampo, Jr. Family Scholarship; I have experience serving multiple years on the FBANC board as a co-director of Mentorship; and I still intend to keep my promise of one day becoming FBANC President. Despite recently taking a personal, unavoidable recess from the FBANC Board, I have maintained my connections with my FBANC pamilya and remain committed to serving my community in a leadership role.
As the FBANC Treasurer, my primary goal is to provide clarity and transparency to the Board as it relates to our budget and overall accounting processes. Using my prior accounting firm experience, I plan to keep accurate records of all FBANC transactions, receipts, and reimbursements. I have experience competing in Mock Trial and am a former/current actor, and I will always present our financial information in a dynamic and digestible way, will make sure to collaborate closely with the FBANC Foundation Treasurer, and will consistently make myself available to answer any Board Member’s finance-related questions.
Additionally, my secondary goal is to provide general counsel to the Board as it relates to finance, accounting, and tax-related issues. I have a Master of Laws in Taxation and currently serve as Tax Counsel for the Franchise Tax Board, where I frequently research tax and accounting laws, represent the agency in tax controversies and provide legal recommendations to the government. I will use my experience to openly and freely support the FBANC Board as they encounter any issues in these complex areas.
Finally, my tertiary goal is to play a “glue-guy” role for the 2021-2022 FBANC Board. For a majority of the incoming Board Members: we have either served together on a past FBANC Board, collaborated through Mentorship as Board Member-Law Student, or simply known each other through law school or other FBANC events. My prior work and close ties with the newer and the more senior members will allow me to bridge the experiences of the Board Members with each other, and my overall familiarity with the Board will help foster teamwork and continuity within the Board for the upcoming year.
FBANC is critical to the livelihood and success of both the Pilipinx legal community and Pilipinx community at-large, and I am thrilled at the opportunity to serve as the FBANC Treasurer for the 2021-2022 year.
