Director Melani G. Tiongson

Melani Giban Tiongson (she/her) is an Attorney at ChangeLab Solutions, where she supports regulatory agencies, local governments, and public health professionals in addressing the upstream determinants of health through equity-centered law and policy change. Before joining ChangeLab Solutions, Melani worked at the University of California as a legal fellow and a legal content specialist. As a legal fellow, Melani supported the systemwide Office of the General Counsel across all practice areas, including constitutional law, employment law, and health law. As a legal content specialist, Melani developed legal education and training content for Continuing Education of the Bar, a self-supporting nonprofit of the University of California. 

Melani joined FBANC as a law student in 2016 and joined the Board of Directors in 2021. After serving as the Legal Clinics Co-Director for two years, Melani now serves on the Board as the Historian Director. Melani also serves on the LGBTQ+ Committee and is one of the Board’s few openly LGBTQ+ members. Melani earned her J.D., with a specialization in law and technology, from the University of California, Berkeley, School of Law. She graduated summa cum laude from Stony Brook University with a B.A. in English and Psychology and a Minor in Japanese Studies. In her spare time, Melani enjoys traveling, discovering new cafes, and kickboxing.
