Mike Nisperos, Jr. FBANC President (1999-2000)

Mike Ancheta Nisperos Jr. currently serves as a Commissioner at the Vallejo Civil Service Commission. Throughout his storied professional career, Mike has worked in both the public and private sector, as a prosecutor and defense attorney, as a sole proprietor, and for multiple government agencies.  

Mike is the 19th President of FBANC and is an FBANC founding member.  During his tenure with FBANC, Mike created the Jose Rizal Social Justice Award and Raymond Ocampo established his eponymous scholarship, both of which continue to the present.

Mike began his legal career as a Deputy District Attorney at the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. Mike has served as Chief of Military Justice and later as Area Defense Counsel for the United States Air Force Judge Advocate General's Corps (JAG Corps) and as Chief Trial Counsel for the State Bar of California.  Mike has also worked as Assistant Attorney General for the Commonwealth of the N. Marianas Islands and as Chief Public Defender in Guam.

Mike proudly served our country in the United State Marines Corps as a Vietnam Veteran, and returned to active duty status when he joined the JAG Corps later in his career.  During Operation Desert Shield in 1990, Mike volunteered for recall to active duty as a Judge Advocate General.

Mike has extensive government experience, having worked over the course of a decade for the City of Oakland as the Mayor's Chief Policy Analyst for Public Safety and Manager of the Citizen's Police Review Board.

Mike has received numerous awards, including the "Jose Rizal Social Justice Award" from FBANC, the "Award for Excellence and Service to the Community" from the Minority Bar Coalition (MBC), and the "Distinguished Attorney Award" from the Philippine American Bar Association of Los Angeles (PABA).

What FBANC means to Mike:

FBANC is an "organization dedicated exclusively to the welfare and benefit of Filipino attorneys...  [and] a means for asserting our identity and advocating our interests beyond what was available" in other bar associations.

 

Mike graduated from UC Berkeley School of Law and earned his B.A. in Rhetoric from UC Berkeley.
