Pistahan Parade and Festival Highlights

SAN FRANCISCO - The 2020 Pistahan Virtual Parade and Festival will take place online at www.pistahan.net, streaming live on FacebookYouTube, and Kumu starting on Saturday, Aug. 8 and running through Sunday, Aug. 9 from 11AM to 4PM Pacific Time. The virtual parade will kick off festivities at 11AM on Saturday, Aug. 8 and showcase highlights from previous parades, including colorful floats and spectacles.

Joining this year’s Pistahan festivities include: Apl.de.ap (Black Eyed Peas), Broadway star siblings Adam and Arielle Jacobs, Bobby Rubio, director of “Float,” Pixar’s first animated short film featuring Filipino lead characters, Carlyle Nuera, lead designer for Barbie Signature at Mattel 

Jenifer K Wofford on “Pattern Recognition” from the collection of the Asian Art Museum, and Jericho Malabonga (Survivor Australia).

Featured TFC artists that will be joining the Pistahan festivities include: Joey Albert and Yzabel Cabral. We are also excited for MYX Presents: Hella Fresh MYXTAPE, featuring music by Kiana V, Ruby Ibarra (pictured), Gabe Bondoc, CRSB and Inigo Pascual.

We launched our first-ever international community talent campaign through Kumu, the hit live-streaming super app for Filipinos with five million Gen Z and millennial users across 50 countries. As the fastest growing social app in the Philippines, the campaign sparked hundreds of livestream broadcasts from over 200 Kumu streamers — all bursting with creative talents and potential.

Support Filipino restaurants and businesses with Pistahan’s Pop-Up Food Court! In collaboration with the Filipino Food Movement, the Pistahan Pop Up Sari-Sari Marketplace will showcase 70+ Filipino businesses from over 20 states in the US and six countries all around the world.

The two-day festival will also feature content from Pistahan’s eight pavilions showcasing the talents, skills, expertise and history of Filipinos from across the globe. Here’s the schedule and look at four of our Pavilions:  

Heritage Pavilion: Positively Filipino presents: a three-part webinar Series on "Racism and the Filipino American." Filipina Women's Network presents: Pinay Entrepreneurship Series Featuring Kharissa Fernando. Filipino American Veterans Recognition and Education Program presents: Conversation with FilVetREP Chairman Major General Tony Taguba.

Innovation Pavilion: The pavilion will highlight four Filipino tech founders from KumuPearlPay, StudEx and Workbean. Hear from Filipino American entrepreneur Roland Ros on how we co-founded and grew Kumu into a live-streaming juggernaut and the Philippines #1 social app in less than 2 years. Today, Kumu is a live-streaming super app for Filipinos with five million Gen Z and millennial users across 50 countries. Community Organizing in the Digital Age: Ushering in a New Generation of Leaders, panel facilitated by Cheska Dolar.

Pistahan and Philippine Development Foundation (PhilDev) present: “Leadership & Representation: Filipinos in Tech” — a discussion with PhilDev trustees Christine Songco-Lau (Sr. Program Manager, Open Source, Google), Cris Liban (Chief Sustainability Officer, LA County), Don Lopez (VP, Infor), Paolo Malabuyo (Director of UX, YouTube), Dado Banatao entrepreneur and engineer, moderated by Levi Sumagaysay, tech reporter and editor for the Mercury News.

Pistahan Tavern: Avenida Restaurant’s Beverage Director Catch Salum and Lead Bartender Jeff Linschoten will share with Pistahan viewers their secret cocktail recipes and show viewers how to create crafty timeless Filipino-inspired cocktails. Pistahan's longtime friend and partner organization Genevieve Wines and Travel and it's founder Genevieve Mondejar will introduce her Napa-sourced wine and will conduct a tasting, and teach viewers how a delectable wine can pair with Filipino Food. Pistahan Tavern’s Filipino-owned clothing brands Filipinoish and Hustle & Provide will be sponsoring the Pistahan Tavern with prizes for Pistahan viewers for their community savvy clothing.

Sports Pavilion: Balisong butterfly knife demo with Ron Cariño of Kultura Ng Balisong. Interview with professional Pinay snowboarder Summer Fenton. Filipino Martial Arts demo by the intergenerational practitioners of Eskabo Daan Martial Arts Studio. World of Dance U-Jam fitness fun workout brought to you by #TeamHillside from the San Francisco Bay Area.
