Jose Ramon Asuncion - The Raymond L. Ocampo, Jr. Family Scholarship Recipient
Jose Ramon Asuncion is a graduating 3L at Santa Clara University School of Law. Born in Makati City, Philippines, he immigrated to Los Angeles, California, in 2007. He graduated from the University of California, Davis, with a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Policy Analysis and Planning. At SCU Law, he serves as the President of the Filipino American Law Society, Treasurer of the First Generation Law Students Association, and Vice President of the Labor and Employment Law Society, showcasing his commitment to fostering community and support among his peers.
Throughout law school, Ramon has actively pursued a variety of opportunities to gain valuable experience across different legal fields. In his 1L summer, he externed at Legal Services of Northern California, where he contributed to the Pension Project, advocating for the rights of retirees and workers. During his 2L year, he interned at the Santa Clara County Public Defender's Office—Post Convictions Unit, where he focused on the Racial Justice Act and efforts toward criminal reform. Last summer, Ramon interned at Rolls-Royce in Indianapolis, IN. He is currently preparing to sit for the California Bar exam in July. Post-Bar Ramon will be working in the field of civil litigation and insurance defense at Kemper.
About the Scholarship: The Raymond L. Ocampo, Jr. Family Scholarship, made possible by the generosity of FBANC founding member and past FBANC president Raymond Ocampo, Jr., is awarded in memory of Mr. Ocampo’s parents and in honor of immigrants like them, for the sacrifices they made and the hardships they endured in search of a better life for their families.
