Kayla Castro - The Cesar V. Alegria, Jr. Scholarship Recipient

A Senior at UC Berkeley, Kayla is pursuing a double major in Legal Studies and Political Science with a minor in Race and Law. Her exceptional leadership was recognized with the UC Berkeley Vice Chancellor’s Award for Outstanding Student Leadership. As the Founder and President of the Public Health and Law Society and an instructor for the Pre-Law DeCal course, Kayla is a dedicated mentor to her peers. One of her most notable accomplishments is her establishment of UC Berkeley’s first-ever Filipino Night with Cal Dining.

At Hiraya Law, she translates her academic rigor into practical advocacy by assisting with legal drafting, client communications, and the development of “Know Your Rights” resources. An aspiring immigration attorney, Kayla is committed to securing justice for underrepresented communities.

Kayla will be attending UC Law San Francisco in the fall where she plans on joining the Pilipinx American Law Society (PALS).

About the Scholarship: The Cesar V. Alegria, Jr. Scholarship is made possible through partnership with Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) in memory of retired PG&E attorney and past FBANC president Cesar Alegria. In honor of Mr. Alegria’s joy and pride in serving his community, this scholarship will be awarded to an entering or existing law school student who has shown a commitment to the Filipino American community, other important social causes, or those most in need.
