Professional Development Director Armbien Sabillo
Armbien Sabillo, Ph.D., J.D. (he/him) is Intellectual Property counsel at Gilead Sciences, where he provides strategic patent counseling for internal research programs, corporate acquisitions, and research collaborations. Armbien’s practice includes intellectual property due diligence, freedom to operate analyses, and global patent prosecution.
Armbien’s fields of expertise include molecular and stem cell biology, covering technologies such as genetic engineering, antibody-drug conjugates for HIV and hepatitis, and adoptive cell therapies for cancers.
Armbien earned his J.D. at Berkeley Law, his Ph.D. in Molecular & Cell Biology at UC Berkeley, and his B.S. in Physiology at San Francisco State University. He was previously a Patent Analyst at Morrison & Foerster LLP in San Francisco and a Patent Associate at Cooley LLP in Silicon Valley.
As a queer Pilipino immigrant, Armbien is passionate about serving his communities, and maintains a pro bono practice working on immigration and IP matters. Armbien has served as FBANC Director for two terms, and co-organized the 2023 Komunidad Conference and the inaugural Liwanag Conference in 2024. Armbien is determined to diversify the legal profession as a Fellow of the Leadership Council on Legal Diversity (LCLD) Pathfinder Program. He also serves on the Board of Directors of Community Resources for Science (CRS), a science education non-profit that provides free science lessons to underserved schools in Oakland and the greater Bay Area.
