Social Director Marjan Kris Abubo
Marjan Kris Abubo is a 2022 graduate of UC Davis School of Law (King Hall) and associate attorney practicing land use and environmental law. He is interested in the areas of climate change, housing, and sustainability. Prior to his current role, he worked at a municipal law firm advising cities and local agencies on land use and public governance. While at King Hall, he obtained a certificate in environmental and natural resources law and earned the public interest/public service distinction. He is interested in the manner in which law, policy, and community organizing shape a more sustainable and equitable built environment. He is admitted to the California bar and the US District Court in the Central District of California.
Throughout his time at King Hall, Marjan was an active member of the Filipinx Law Students Association and First Generation Advocates. He also served as the Editor-in-Chief of the Environs Law Journal and President of the King Hall Negotiations Team. Previously, Marjan was a board representative for the Bay Area Lawyers for Individual Freedom (BALIF) and has been active with FBANC since law school, being awarded the FBANC/BALIF Pamilya Scholarship in 2022.
Born in Quezon City, Philippines, Marjan immigrated to a working-class, immigrant community Los Angeles, California. His passion for advocating for a livable community informed his decision to study urban planning and history from UCLA, where he graduated with honors. Prior to law school, Marjan worked in local government, scaling up sustainability and energy-efficiency programs. When he is not lawyering, Marjan enjoys running, rock-climbing, and fashioning intricate terrariums for friends and family.
