Congratulations to Administrative Law Judge Cristelle Conanan!
FBANC celebrates Cristelle Conanan on her new role as the Administrative Law Judge for the State of California Department of Social Services.
Judge Conanan has spent most of her career as a family law attorney litigator and mediator in the Bay Area. After graduating from UC Berkeley with a major in English Literature and minor in Ethnic Studies, Judge Conanan earned her Juris Doctorate from Loyola Law School in Los Angeles. During law school, she clerked for various public interest organizations including Public Counsel (the sister organization of the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights), the Mexican American Legal Defense and Education Fund and the National Lawyers Guild, as well as civil litigation and consulting firms in labor and employment law. As an attorney, Judge Conanan remained dedicated to providing access to justice by volunteering at various clinics with FBANC, the Alameda County Bar Association, by serving as a volunteer Settlement Officer for the Contra Costa County Superior Court Family Law Department, and by mentoring other attorney volunteers through the Alameda County Bar Association’s incubator project. Judge Conanan started her judicial service early this month.
After a discussion with FBANC President Jennifer Sta.Ana, Judge Conanan would like to share the following with the FBANC community:
I am grateful for the opportunity to serve as an Administrative Law Judge for the State of California Department of Social Services, particularly during these challenging times. Representing individuals of various backgrounds and circumstances through private practice and public interest work has developed my appreciation for the diversity and needs within our state. I am especially thankful for the continued support of my family and the legal community. Upon relocating from Southern California to the Bay Area, I was warmly welcomed by FBANC and became inspired by their commitment to serving the Filipino American community through legal clinics, mentorship programs, and networking activities. Connecting with others and sharing resources in this way fosters community development and a brighter future for all. I look forward to supporting FBANC’s mission and intend to serve the public in my new capacity with integrity, equity, and respect.
As a 41-year-old bar association with a longstanding commitment to diversifying the legal profession, FBANC looks forward to Judge Conanan’s representation on the bench and her dedicated service to the public.
