FBANC Congratulates Judge Elect Pelayo A. Llamas, Jr.

August 17, 2022

FBANC wholeheartedly congratulates advisory board member Pelayo A. Llamas, Jr. on his recent historic interim appointment by Governor Gavin Newsom to serve as a Superior Court Judge for Alameda County. This interim appointment allows Commissioner Llamas to immediately begin serving as a judge in the office he won by election in June 2022. His full term of office will start in January 2023.

Judge Elect Llamas is a 1986 graduate of U.C. Berkeley and obtained his J.D. in 1992 from Santa Clara University. Before becoming a Commissioner in 2019, he served over 18 years as an Oakland Deputy City Attorney, preceded by eight years in private practice. He is a past FBANC board member, a past president of the Earl Warren American Inn of Court, and past Vice President of the Alameda County Bar Association.

Judge Elect Llamas would like to share the following words with the FBANC community:

"I want to thank FBANC for its loving support and camaraderie over the years to me and anyone who serves justice and equality. As the first person in my family born in the USA (my father was born in the Philippines and my mother is from Japan), this achievement is a testament to the equity that our democratic system of government offers. I am honored to public service in this way."

As a 42-year-old bar association striving for diversity, equity, and inclusion in the legal profession, FBANC looks forward to Judge Elect Llamas’ representation on the bench and his dedicated service as a judicial officer.
