Congratulations to Past President Jennifer L. Sta.Ana on Her Appointment as Special Assistant Attorney General for the Attorney General of California

FBANC wholeheartedly congratulates FBANC 2021-2022 President and Pinay Powerhouse Co-Founder Jennifer L. Sta.Ana on her appointment by California Attorney General Rob Bonta to serve as the Special Assistant Attorney General for Labor and Worker Rights at the California Department of Justice.

Jennifer serves as the top legal and policy advisor to the Attorney General on litigation and policy matters regarding labor and worker rights. Jennifer will advance the Attorney General’s labor and worker rights priorities within the Department and serves as the chief liaison between the Attorney General’s Office and community stakeholders.

Jennifer has tirelessly served workers throughout her legal career, as fellow FBANC past presidents can attest:

Jennifer has been a committed, passionate advocate for workers her entire legal career, and I can’t wait to see how she will strengthen workers’ rights enforcement across California in her new role at the Attorney General’s Office. Jenn’s success will be the success of workers statewide.
— Marc Pilotin, FBANC President 2019-2020
This honor reflects her unwavering and deeply rooted advocacy for workers. Jennifer has devoted her career to making labor protections real for those too often unseen—migrant workers, care workers, labor trafficking survivors, and underrepresented communities. I also had the privilege of working closely with Jennifer on the FBANC Board for several years, where her leadership was transformative. During the pandemic, she served as the primary architect of FBANC’s and Asian Americans Advancing Justice – Asian Law Caucus’ statewide unemployment clinic—recruiting and training over 80 volunteers, delivering more than 1,400 pro bono hours, and supporting more than 500 callers and 140 clients at the height of COVID-19. Her work provided a vital lifeline for workers most impacted by sudden job loss.

Jennifer’s appointment is a tremendous gain for workers across California. Her deep relationships with grassroots labor organizations, steadfast dedication to justice, and proven record of impact make her uniquely suited for this role. I cannot imagine a more capable, compassionate, or committed advocate to help lead this work. I am excited to see all the ways she will continue to strengthen and expand protections for California workers.
— Mari Bandoma Callado, FBANC President 2020-2021

As a 45-year-old bar association striving for diversity, equity, and inclusion in the legal profession, FBANC looks forward to Jennifer’s service as the Special Assistant Attorney General. Congratulations, Jennifer!
