Mika Domingo Installed as 51st President of California Women Lawyers

On Friday, September 9, 2022, FBANC Professional Development Co-Director Michelle “Mika” Domingo was installed as the President of the California Women Lawyers (CWL) during its 51st annual dinner held at the Waterfront Hotel in Oakland, California. Ms. Domingo, who was born and raised in the Philippines and immigrated to the United States when she was 12 years old, is believed to be the organization’s first Filipina President. Ms. Domingo’s theme “Power in Partnerships: Connect, Collaborate, and Conquer” highlights her inspiration and dedication to furthering CWL’s mission of advancing women in the legal profession and eliminating all forms of inequality. She will focus her presidential efforts on collaborating with other bar associations and community organizations to maximize CWL’s resources and reach. The annual dinner featured a keynote speech from D’Lonra C. Ellis, Chief Legal Officer of the Oakland Athletics and San Jose Earthquakes, as well as the presentation of the Rose Bird Memorial Award to Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals Judge Lucy H. Koh. CWL and its annual Nancy E. O’Malley Scholarship to Corina Yetter, who graduated from UC Davis School of Law in 2022.
The FBANC community came out in full force to applaud Ms. Domingo’s historic installation. California Women Lawyers was established in 1974 “to advance women in the profession of law; to improve the administration of justice; to better the position of women in society; to eliminate all inequities based on gender, and to provide an organization for collective action and expression germane to the aforesaid purposes.” CWL, which has members statewide, seeks to advance women through legislative advocacy; provide amicus support in cases affecting women; prepare women for judicial appointments and political office; evaluate candidates for judicial appointment; recognize outstanding women lawyers and judges; provide scholarships to exceptional law students; provide valuable networking opportunities; and more.
