Leoangelo Cristobal
Leo Cristobal is Tax Counsel for the California Franchise Tax Board, where he serves in the Legal Division’s Tax Administration and Procedure Bureau. His practice includes representing the FTB in tax controversies before the Office of Tax Appeals; providing general counsel to FTB employees with respect to the Internal Revenue Code and the California Revenue and Taxation Code; and advising the agency as a subject-matter expert in delinquent penalties and interest abatement review. He also responds to public taxpayer inquiries through FTB’s Ask A Legal Expert initiative and serves as the Legal Division’s representative in FTB’s Enterprise Coaching and Mentoring Program.
Prior to serving at FTB, Leo worked as an Associate at Andersen Tax in the Private Client Services group. He also represented low-income taxpayers as part of the Tax Appeals Assistance Program and is a former extern to the Honorable Teri L. Jackson at the San Francisco Superior Court. He previously served for two years as FBANC Co-Director of Mentorship and is also currently on the board for the Solano County Asian Pacific American Bar Association.
Leo completed his undergraduate studies at the University of California, Davis, graduated from Golden Gate University School of Law in 2016, and obtained his Master of Laws in Taxation in 2017. During law school he served as the President of PALS, competed in Mock Trial, published and edited for Law Review, received the Raymond L. Ocampo, Jr. Family Scholarship, and was selected Student Speaker at his Commencement. He is a proud son, husband, and father, and he is fully committed to using his skills and influence to serve the Pilipinx community.
