The Filipino Bar Association of Northern California (“FBANC”)
will hold its
46th Installation Gala at the Hyatt Regency San Francisco on Friday, June 26, 2026.
At our 46th Annual Gala, we’ll celebrate the Filipino American legal community and recognize some of our amazing colleagues. We will also award scholarships to terrific law students and present the William R. Tamayo Community Grant to a local non-profit organization. Your continued support of FBANC makes all this possible.
The evening will begin with a cocktail hour, followed by a three-course dinner. Cocktail attire, filipiniana, or barong suggested. We hope you can join us. Thank you for considering FBANC!

Past Installation Galas
The 45th Annual FBANC Installation Dinner was held on June 13, 2025, at the Oakland Rotunda. The theme for FBANC 45 was “Pathways” which celebrates the fact that there is no one right way to become a lawyer, no one right way to be a lawyer, and no one right path thereafter. Each of us are on different paths, yet all our journeys brought us together.
FBANC honored Carla Laurel, Executive Director of West Bay Pilipino Multi-Service Center, with its Jose Rizal Award. Christopher Cabaldon, California State Senator, District 03received FBANC’s Trailblazer Award. Richard Pio Roda, Co-Founder, Redwood Public Law, LLP and served as our distinguished Keynote Speaker. Pinayista was awarded the 4th annual William R. Tamayo Community Grant.
The FBANC Foundation awarded nearly $50,000 in scholarships that evening.
The 44th Annual FBANC Installation Dinner was held on June 14, 2024, at the San Francisco Design Center Galleria. The theme for FBANC 44 was Moving Forward, which celebrated our shared Fil-Am experience of struggle and perseverance. Moreover, this theme represented resiliently choosing to carry our formative history along with us rather than choosing to leave it behind, and served as a reminder to continue grappling with injustices wherever we see them.
FBANC honored Mona Tawatao, the Legal Director of Equal Justice Society, with its Jose Rizal Award. Bryan Pangilinan, Composer and Executive Producer of “Larry The Musical: An American Journey,” received FBANC’s Trailblazer Award and served as our distinguished Keynote Speaker. Little Manila Rising was awarded the 4th annual William R. Tamayo Community Grant.
The FBANC Foundation awarded a record-breaking amount of nearly $50,000 in scholarships that evening.
The 43rd Annual FBANC Installation Dinner was held on June 9, 2023, at The Pearl in San Francisco. The theme for FBANC 43 was Be The Change, which focused on highlighting how our Filipino American community has changed the complexion of the legal field throughout the years.
FBANC honored Jose Antonio Vargas with its Jose Rizal Award, Ted Borromeo with its Trailblazer Award, and Filipino Community Development Corporation with the William R. Tamayo Community Grant. FBANC featured The Honorable Eleanor Nisperos, FBANC founding member and FBANC’s first president, as its Keynote Speaker.
The FBANC Foundation awarded $34,500 in scholarships that evening, including the inaugural Ernie & Mila Llorente Scholarship and the inaugural Cesar V. Alegria, Jr. Scholarship.
The 42nd Annual FBANC Installation Dinner was held on June 10, 2022, at San Francisco City Hall. The theme for FBANC 42 was FBANCFor All, which focused on championing diversity, equity, and inclusion in the legal profession, increasing pipelines for leaders of color, and serving the SF Bay Area Filipino/a/x community through access to justice initiatives.
FBANC honored Dr. Robyn Rodriguez with its Jose Rizal Award, Chris Punongbayan with its Trailblazer Award, and Sama Sama Cooperative with the William R. Tamayo Community Grant. FBANC featured San Francisco City Attorney David Chiu as its Keynote Speaker.
The FBANC Foundation awarded $32,000 in scholarships that evening, including the inaugural Carlos P. Romulo Family Scholarship.
The 41st Annual FBANC Installation Ceremony was held virtually on June 3, 2021. The theme for FBANC 41 was Know History, Know Self, which implored all of us to remember our collective histories and struggles as we serve the SF Bay Area Filipino/a/x community.
FBANC honored Cynthia Bonta with its Jose Rizal Award, Ruth Silver Taube with its Trailblazer Award, and Pin@y Educational Partnerships with FBANC’s inaugural Community Grant. FBANC featured California Labor Secretary Julie Su as its Keynote Speaker.
The FBANC Foundation awarded over $32,000 in scholarshipsthat evening, including the inaugural Ted Borromeo Scholarship.
The 40th Annual FBANC Installation Ceremony was held virtually on June 11, 2020. The theme for FBANC 40 was Pamana or Legacy, as translated from Tagalog. FBANC recognized and celebrated its four-decade-long commitment to diversifying the legal profession and to serving the SF Bay Area Filipino/a/x and Filipino/a/x American community.
FBANC honored Professor Bill Hing with its Jose Rizal Award, and Raymond L. Ocampo, Jr., FBANC founding member and past president, with its Trailblazer Award. FBANC also featured Rob Bonta, the Hon. Judge Benjamin T. Reyes, II, and the Hon. Judge Audra Ibarra as speakers.
The FBANC Foundation awarded over $40,000 in scholarships and stipends that evening, almost doubling the previous year.
FBANC 39
The 39th Annual FBANC Installation Dinner was held on June 7, 2019, at the Oakland Rotunda Building. The theme for FBANC 39 was Committed to Community.
FBANC honored Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) District Director and FBANC founding member Bill Tamayo with its Jose Rizal Award, and Bayanihan Community Center Executive Director Bernadette Borja Sy with its Trailblazer Award. FBANC featured The Honorable Benjamin T. Reyes, II as its Keynote Speaker.
The FBANC Foundation awarded $23,750 in scholarships and stipends that evening.
FBANC 38
The 38th Annual FBANC Installation Dinner was held on June 8, 2018, at the Intercontinental Mark Hopkins Hotel in San Francisco. The theme for FBANC 38 was Uplift and Defend.
FBANC honored United Playaz Founder and Executive Director Rudy Corpuz, Jr. with its Jose Rizal Award, and California LAW Interim Executive Director and FBANC Advisory Board Member Ruthe Ashley with its Trailblazer Award. FBANC featured Rob Bonta, ardent FBANC supporter and California’s current Attorney General, as its Keynote Speaker.
The FBANC Foundation awarded $23,000 in scholarships that evening.
FBANC 37
The 37th Annual FBANC Installation Dinner was held on June 22, 2017, at the San Francisco Filipino Cultural Center (Sentro Filipino). The theme for FBANC 37 was The Genius of Heritage.
FBANC honored Filipino Advocates for Justice Executive Director Lillian Galedo with its Jose Rizal Award, and National Filipino American Lawyers Association (NFALA) Founder and Past President Rudy Figueroa with its Trailblazer Award. FBANC featured Diosdado Banatao, renowned philanthropist and entrepreneur, as its Keynote Speaker.
The FBANC Foundation awarded $18,750 in scholarships that evening.
FBANC 36
The 36th Annual FBANC Installation Dinner was held on June 24, 2016, at the Oakland Rotunda Building. The theme for FBANC 36 was Filipiniana.
FBANC honored California 18th District Assemblymember Rob Bonta with its Jose Rizal Award, and Tani G. Cantil-Sakauye, the first Filipina American to serve as the Chief Justice of the California Supreme Court, with its Trailblazer Award. FBANC also featured the Chief Justice as its Keynote Speaker.
The FBANC Foundation awarded $13,000 in scholarships that evening.
FBANC 35
The 35th Annual FBANC Installation Dinner was held on June 5, 2015, at the Peony Restaurant in Oakland, California.
FBANC had a special presentation from California Assemblymember Rob Bonta, and President Vanessa Candelaria honored FBANC’s Past Female Presidents. FBANC also honored past presidentBilly Chan with its Jose Rizal Award, and Professor Rose Cuison-Villazor with its Trailblazer Award, who also featured as the Keynote Speaker.

Homecoming 2021
On Friday, December 3, 2021, FBANC celebrated the times lost due to the pandemic during FBANC 40 and FBANC 41 at Saint Joseph's Arts Society in SoMa Pilipinas. This special FBANC holiday event was hosted by FBANC President Jennifer Sta.Ana and Immediate Past President Mari Bandoma Callado.
